We at Heffers, Cambridge booksellers for 140 years, are great fans of Yale’s books, and we enjoy working with the team there very much. Given the number of excellent medieval history titles on their list, we thought what better way to showcase a selection than a day of talks given by the authors, to Cambridge’s numerous scholars of medieval history.
The Heffers’ Classics Forum, now in its fifth year, has been very well received and we hope the Medieval Festival will follow in its footsteps, with a similar format – and the same relaxed, friendly atmosphere. We have decided to host in the Holy Sepulchre – better known as Cambridge’s famous Round Church – a beautiful medieval building which seemed to lend itself perfectly as a venue.
Speaker and subjects on the day include Michael Alexander – Medievalism; David Bates – William the Conqueror; Timothy Bolton – Cnut the Great; Anne Curry – The Battle of Agincourt; Glyn Davies – English Medieval Embroidery; Charles Freeman – Holy Bones, Holy Dust; Lindy Grant – Blanche of Castile, Queen of France; David Green – The Hundred Years War; Richard Huscroft – Tales From the Long Twelfth Century; Anne Lawrence-Mathers – The True History of Merlin the Magician; Christopher Page – The Christian West and Its Singers; Levi Roach – Ethelred the Unready and Malcolm Vale – Henry V.
We will, of course, be taking books along to sell at the event and there will be time for book signing between each set of speakers – we look forward to seeing you there!
Tickets are £26 if bought in advance and can be purchased via heffersmedievalfestival.eventbrite.co.uk, by calling 01223 463200 or in person at Heffers bookshop, 20 Trinity Street, Cambridge.
