Exposed: Lingerie Through Time

Spanning the mid-18th Century to the present, Exposed: A History of Lingerie demonstrates the enduring importance of fashion in women’s private lives. With clothing from some of the most important designers of the age, these pieces demonstrate the development of lingerie from functional, to beautiful, alluring and decorative. Stunning historical garments from fashion houses such as Christian Dior are included, as is risqué contemporary underwear by labels such as Agent Provocateur. Modern photographs accompany early French drawings and paintings, demonstrating how trends of silhouettes are adapted, ideals of propriety are altered, and advancements in technology foster new facets of design.

You can see Exposed: A History of Lingerie brought to life at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, June 3rd – November 15th, 2014.
